Jwaneng magistrate remands double rape accused

06 Jul 2022

Double rape accused, Ikageng Hisang, also known as Tsinono was on Tuesday stripped of his liberties after he reportedly violated one of his bail conditions.

Hisang, who is accused of rape, is said to have committed a similar offence while on bail.

Motivating reasons in his application for remand, the investigating officer, Detective Constable Orateng Pinaemang indicated that one of the conditions for bail in his initial case was that he should not commit a similar offence.

“The accused person, however, went on to commit another offence of rape, which directly violated the condition that he was given,” she said.

Detective Constable Pinaemang also informed the court that in the second matter, the accused person was so violent that he tied the boyfriend of his victim and committed the offence in his watch, threatening to harm or kill him with an axe.

“Even after the ordeal, he threatened to kill them both should they report him to the police, therefore remanding him is for their own safety because we are afraid that he might act on his word,” she said.

Detective  Constable Pinaemang also said another reason they pleaded with the court to remand the accused was that he was hard to get as they only managed to arrest him after five days of intensive search, and that they were still to fully establish his true identity and his place of origin as he did not have any identity documents.

The 22-year-old is accused of having raped his first victim on June 8 at Kaduwe lands near Jwaneng.

About two weeks later, on June 23, he struck for the second time when he raped his second victim while he was on bail for the first offence.

He did not object to the application for his remand and will appear on August 2 for mention.

Meanwhile, murder accused, Mosimanewakgotla Sekoba of Maokane has informed the court that he would conduct his own defence in a case in which he is accused of murder.

Sekoba allegedly murdered one Obakeng Koloti at Maokane on July 2, and the plea in the matter was reserved for a later date while the 38 year-old will be remanded pending investigations.

The investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Thamiso Kgangetsile informed the court that the offence was a serious one and still fresh, hence the need to keep the accused in custody as they feared he might fail to turn up in court when needed.

“We are still to meet some of the witnesses to record statements, so we fear that the accused might interfere with investigations.

He also stays close to the deceased’s home and we fear for his safety as the family might harm him,” he said.

Jwaneng senior magistrate, Ms Caroline Kataba, however, ruled that reasons advanced by investigating officer that the matter was a serious one and that the accused might bunk the court were not valid enough and should be abandoned by the prosecution.

In an interview to shed more light in the matter, the station commander for Jwaneng police, Superintendent Thuso Basuti said when the incident occurred there was no other person present except the deceased and the accused.

“The accused informed us that while he was at home that day, the deceased came and insulted him, which got him infuriated and in the process, took an okapi knife and stabbed him on the left side.

He further informed us that after the incident, the deceased went back home where he dropped down and was rushed to the hospital, where he was certified dead,” he said.

He said they suspected that the two might have had some misunderstanding prior to the incident, and that they were still looking for witnesses to assist.

Sekoba will appear again before court on August 1 for status hearing. Ends
