04 Jul 2022
The newly elected Ghanzi District Council chairperson, Mr Jeremiah Tibi has vowed to ensure that topical issues confronting humanity would remain top of his roadmap.
Giving his maiden speech at a full council session recently, Mr Tibi said his roadmap would entail, but not be limited to, quality service provision, project acceleration and commitment to promote private sector participation for economic development and job creation.
He also committed to promoting and encouraging district food sufficiency and security as well as establishing a defined multi sectoral structure inclusive of civil society to combat gender-based violence and alcohol as well as drug abuse.
Mr Tibi said emphasis would be on quality service delivery, to effectively promote the above mentioned priorities that were also aligned to the President’s RESET Agenda and Vision 2036 principles.
He said those key priorities would serve as a guide to keep the wheels of the local economy running. He, therefore, called for collective efforts from the district leadership and other key stakeholders for the council to prosper.
Mr Tibi applauded his predecessor’s effective leadership during the challenging time of COVID-19.
He said the pandemic put the previous leadership under pressure, but they worked hard to ensure business continuity.
However, Mr Tibi expressed worry regarding implementation of Community Constituency Projects that could have ended in the financial year prior to the past one.
He implored the political and administrative wings to accelerate implementation of projects and to ensure their completion.
Mr Tibi talked about the delay of Ghanzi South-Kgalagadi North water supply project.
He said the actual progress of the groundwater component stood at 88 per cent, environmental component 50 per cent and engineering design while contraction had not yet commenced.
He said there were delays in starting works at Karakubis borehole BH9981, which was currently supplying Kalkfontein due to delayed approval of engineering designs.
Mr Tibi said his office was working round the clock to better the situation and ensure optimal service delivery.
“In the meantime, we will continue bowsing to Xanagas while awaiting commencement of borehole BH9981,” said Mr Tibi. ends
