Gaolathe inspires learners to dream big

Vice President and Minister of Finance, Mr Ndaba Gaolathe, has encouraged learners to dream big, value education and appreciate the dedication of their teachers.
Speaking during a visit to Khuduga Primary School in his constituency yesterday, Mr Gaolathe said the purpose of his visit was not only to meet the learners but also to thank teachers for their commitment to shaping Botswana's future.
“I came here not only to say hello to you, but also to say thank you to your teachers for doing such a great job of teaching you and grooming you,” he said.
Reflecting on his own first day in Standard One, Mr Gaolathe who is also the MP for Bonnington South reminded learners that time passed quickly and urged them to make the most of every opportunity from an early age, saying greatness began with the choices made in childhood.
He encouraged pupils to pursue their dreams confidently and never be ashamed of their ambitions. Whether they aspire to become doctors, teachers, entrepreneurs, ministers, President or Vice President, he said success began with believing in themselves.
“It starts with you dreaming. Believe that you can do it, dream it, sleep it, walk it and hold on to your dream,” he said.
Mr Gaolathe also encouraged learners to develop love for learning by reading widely, asking questions and seeking wisdom from teachers, parents, relatives and elders, noting that knowledge gained from experienced people could have a lasting impact on their lives.
He further urged them to build strong character by being disciplined, punctual, honest and respectful towards their teachers and parents.
Highlighting the importance of teamwork and kindness, Mr Gaolathe encouraged learners to support classmates who struggled academically instead of ridiculing them, saying true leadership was about helping others succeed.
“Learn to work together as a team. Even when you are the best, give someone else a chance so that they can grow to become as good as you are,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the learners would one day become Botswana's future leaders, professionals and role models, adding that their success would make their teachers, parents and the nation proud.
The visit concluded with an interactive pledge involving the learners, reinforcing the values of education, discipline, teamwork and dreaming big. Mr Gaolathe also donated English literature books to support the school's learning programme.
Meanwhile, Diphetogo Ward councillor, Mr Tshenolo Palai thanked the Vice President for visiting Khuduga Primary School, saying the move would inspire learners to continue striving for academic excellence.
Mr Palai said the school had consistently performed well in the Primary School Leaving Examinations, attributing its success to the dedication of both teachers and learners.
He, however, appealed for the refurbishment of the school, noting that some infrastructure required urgent attention. He specifically called for the construction of child-friendly toilets, saying the existing facilities were not suitable for pre-school learners. ENDS
