Ghanzi-Kgalagadi water pipeline construction starts next year

Construction of the P38-million water pipeline from Ncojane and Karakubis well fields to ten villages in Ghanzi south and Kgalagadi north is anticipated to commence in February next year.
Addressing Kgalagadi District Council virtual full meeting, chairperson Mr Hendrick Jacobs said the project would see water drawn from Ncojane well fields to supply Lehututu, Lokgwabe, Maake Hukuntsi, Ncaang, Monong, Hunhukwe, Zutshwa, Metsimantle and Matsimantsho.
The contract supervised by Department of Water and Sanitation will start off with the design for a period of four months from August 2022 whilst the actual construction of pipelines is anticipated to start in February 2023.
Mr Jacobs said cleaning and test pumping of six production boreholes located at Ncojane well field started on October 7, 2021 and was completed on February 26. The drilling contractor mobilised to Karakubis Well field located in the Ghanzi district.
He said two boreholes were cleaned and test pumped at Karakubis Well field between April 3 and June 7.
In addition, two new boreholes were yet to be drilled at Karakubis well field.
He said drilling of the first borehole commenced on June 6 and was completed on June 13. Mobilisation to the second boreholes was carried out on June 14. Overall percentage progress of the groundwater was at 88 per cent as at June 13.
He also said engineering consultants from Bergstan company were on June 3 furnished with an implementation strategy meant to assist in drafting of the tender documents for contractors who will be responsible for the construction of the pipelines.
He said the tender documents were submitted to the employer on June 21 for vetting, whilst the award and announcement of the contractor was expected by August 2022, then followed by actual construction of the pipeline in February 2023. Ends
