Kanye magistrate Ms Ditebogo Ntuli has ruled that murder accused, Jacob Leselamose should be sent to Sbrana Psychiatric hospital for assesment.
Additionally, she ruled that he should be further remanded until July 14 when he would appear for mention.
Jacob, who was restless during his court appearance on Tuesday, is accused of murdering his three-year old neighbour, Jaone Motlhabane of Kgopa ward in Moshupa on May 27.
The gruesome incident reportedly happened after the 38-year old former soldier had a fight with his family, after which he took the toddler and left him unconscious inside his uncle’s (Jacob’s) hut in the same neighbourhood.
During his brief stay inside the dock, the accused person pleaded with court to grant him bail. He said contrary to the prosecution’s statement, he did not stay in the same neighbourhood with the victim’s family. “Your worship, that is my brother, he stays in Gaborone. I don’t stay there, I was only there for a visit, “ he pleaded.
The prosecutor, Inspector Cyril Rampefe of Moshupa police station opposed the bail application, saying it was for the safety of the accused person and the public. ENDS
