The labour and home affairs sector has been challenged to come up with new ways to facilitate employment opportunities to contribute to the recovery of the economy from effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges.
Speaking, during the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs retreat in Mahalapye on Monday, ministry’s permanent secretary, Mr Jimmy Opelo said the meeting aimed at defining and sharing values and outline their strategic priorities to develop a service delivery plan. He said they believed the retreat would offer a better understanding and brainstorming as well as decision making.Mr Opelo said for some years, the labour and employment sector showed a decline in the global productivity which resulted in a decline in economic activity, loss of business and jobs, mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“What we will discuss in the next five days is meant to shape the way out ministry will operate to deliver our services to the nation in an efficient and timely manner, consistent with the various development frameworks,” he said.
He further explained that the ministry had made some achievements such as renewing some laws launching online Visa, commissioning, one stop border post at Kazungula and two branch libraries in Rakops and Mookane.
Mr Opelo advised leaders to unite and be passionate to serve customers in a manner, that would help them achieve their mandate.
He urged the leadership to bring new ideas, new tools and of revitalised enthusiasm. ENDS
