Delimitation body ready
14 Jun 2022
The Delimitation Commission has been urged to act with diligence, expedite its programme and submit its report timeously to give political parties time to study it and formulate their campaign strategies for the 2024 general elections. Swearing in members of the commission’s secretariat yesterday, Chief Justice Terrence Rannowane said the commission, appointed on May 13, was now ready to perform its functions as set out in section 65 of the Constitution.
“In your day to day functions, you will be facilitated by the government through the office of the Independent Electoral Commission,” said Mr Rannowane.
He said section 64(1) of the Constitution empowered the Judicial Service Commission, which he chaired, to appoint a body to demarcate constituency boundaries at certain intervals.
Appointed immediately after the completion of the Housing and Population Census, the commission’s appointment was a critical milestone in the country’s 10-year democratic and political calendar of events, which had been religiously adhered to since independence, Mr Rannowane said.
The Delimitation Commission secretariat members include Ms Dintle Setlhotlhe as secretary, deputised by Mr Boago Mashadi, Mr Stephen Kokorwe, Mr Neo Rakodu and Ms Yvonne Seitshiro - Nyoni.
The secretariat members are joining commissioners, Judge Mokwadi Gabanagae as chairperson, Ms Elizabeth Masire, Mr Maotoanong Sebina, Mr Thebeyame Tsimako and Mr Jost Isaac.BOPA
