Police in Tutume are appealing to the public to help them locate the mother of a four-month old baby girl abandoned at Mengwe graveyard in Maitengwe on Saturday.

In an interview on Monday,  station commander Superintendent Jerry Halahala said they received a report from mourners who had gone for a burial at the cemetery. Mournerrs were alarmed by the baby's cries from nearby bushes.

He said the baby was found covered in a small blanket.

He said it was taken to Tutume Primary Hospital where she was attended to by medical doctors and declared healthy.

He thus appeal to the public to help them find the mother, adding if found, she would likely be charged with attempted murder or child negligence. Superintendent  Halahala stated that the baby was currently under medical care at the hospital  BOPA
