Mogorosi Korae, a threat to kill accused person who recently assaulted Molepolole senior magistrate Kefilwe Resheng says he regrets his actions over what transpired during his court appearance on May 17.
Korae 38, of Magokotswane ward in Molepolole attacked magistrate Resheng when she was presiding over a case of threat to kill in which he was a suspect. Korae who had previously refused to appear for mention on Friday May 27, confessed, on Monday when he appeared for mention, to have assaulted the magistrate after they failed to reach agreement on why his case was to be heard by the complainant, magistrate Resheng instead of the substantive chief magistrate.
On a fresh matter, Korae is faced with four counts of which he said he was only aware of the first count in which it was alleged that he assaulted the magistrate. The accused dismissed other counts as he believed other matters involving him before the courts were long concluded and was cleared from the cases except the one for murder.
On the matter relating to assault, Korae said, “I advanced from the dock out of anger to where the magistrate was but did not cause her any harm as suggested by the charge sheet.
He then told court that he was concerned about his regular appearance before court over cases that he had long been cleared from. “I have been cleared from cases of rape and robbery, and the pending murder case is currently before the high court judge,” he said.
Meanwhile senior magistrate Bame Ngaka advised the accused to diarize orders given to him by the courts since he had cases pending before the courts to avoid confusion. Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) prosecutor, Ms Maungo Edward who appeared for the threat to kill case against Korae pleaded with the court to grant her more time to be able to study the case since it was handed to her last Friday.
Meanwhile Korae would conduct his own defense until such a time that he would see the need to engage a lawyer for his defense.
Currently the accused is still remanded in prison until his next appearance for mention scheduled for June 23. Korae is facing three counts of assault and one count for resisting arrest. ENDS
