The two South African nationals charged with robbing G4S Security P2.3 million during the cash-in-transit at Turn Rite mall in Mogoditshane have requested to be provided with winter clothing.

The two, Mzwandile Mazibuko and Ntholephi Elliot Ntshalintshali made their request before Broadhurst Magistrate Ms Goabaone Rammapudi-Lesedi on Tuesday where they explained that efforts by their families to provide them with winter clothing failed as they were turned back by prison officials. The third accused, Mazibuko said a relative who had wanted to bring him some clothes and toiletries was turned back by prison officials.

He said efforts to get his lawyer to intervene were futile as the lawyer, who was not present in court, was also not allowed to bring the clothes.

He said such treatment had subjected him to harsh winter conditions.

Furthermore, he said prison officials were not adhering to the time schedules prescribed by the doctor when giving him his medication.

While, Ntshalintshali said his visitor was also turned back with supplies, which included winter clothing. He told the court that he had no warm clothes and added that he had been subjected to cold weather.

However, magistrate Ms Rammapudi-Lesedi instructed the prosecution to note the concerns and liaise with the prison officials where the accused persons were being kept.

The two accused persons, alongside Mothusi Alfred Matomela and Thapelo Lekobe who are Batswana, are facing a single charge of robbery and possession of firearms and ammunition.

They are accused of robbing G4S Security cash in October last year. The case trial date has been set for August this year.

However, the accused persons who are all remanded in custody would appear for mention on July 8.

Meanwhile, the four accused persons in the Staywell Hotels murder case, Kealeboga Molefi, Phenyo Kasale, Koketso Dipeba and Oteng Sephai had their bail extended by magistrate Ms Rammapudi-Lesedi and would appear again for mention on July 1.

The four are accused of killing a 30-year-old Gape Monnathoko at Staywell Hotels in Mogoditshane in March this year. ENDS
