Gumare Police have arrested three juveniles suspected for house break-in and theft cases of goods amounting to about P30 000 that occurred in the village.
Speaking in an interview, Assistant Supt Jerry Sabata of Gumare police station said the teenagers aged between 13 and 14 years were arrested on May 31.
Assistant Superintendent Sabata said that the arrest was a breakthrough for Gumare police since they have received numerous cases of robbery at health officers houses in Gumare known as ‘Phakalane.’
He said on May 31 they received a report from a medical officer whose house was broken into while away on weekend in Maun.
Asst Supt Sabata said two more people from the same area also reported house break-in on the same day.
The police then began investigations and tailed some footprints which led to the arrest of the culprits.
He said the perpetrators then led the police to where the stolen goods which included laptops, blankets, cameras and food items were kept.
The officer said the police established that the junior secondary students in question were delinquents who only went to school occasionally during breakfast or lunch times.
The Asst Supt Sabata said that the stolen goods were found in an abandoned house along Nokane-Gumare road where the suspects lived.
He appealed to the parents, teachers and public to work together and ensured that children desist from unwelcome behaviour.
“Parents should be worried when their children are not home and should report to relevant departments, and teachers should also inform parents if children abscond,” he said.
He said by so doing that would help curb cases of children who were engaged in undesirable behavior.
Meanwhile, Supt Sabata said that the suspects would undergo assessment by Social Workers since they were minors to determine what action to be taken against them.
He said that the stolen goods which were identified by the rightful owners were still in police custody while investigations continued. ENDS
