Botswana Stock Exchange ( BSE) has vowed to empower teachers and leaners on stock markets education.

She said it was crucial for learners to understand investment in stocks as another way for diversifying skills and empowering learners with life changing subjects.

In that regard, she implored teachers to expose learners to some of the BSE activities such as the bell ringing ceremony to acquaint themselves with stock markets issues.

“I want to see a Motswana learner being able to comprehend things equally like a leaner in some of the first world countries,” she stated.

She said teachers should make arrangements with BSE to understand what they were doing so that some learners could gain knowledge in markets and shares and try tap in the unsaturated market of selling shares.

Ms Moribame also encouraged educators to reach out to private sector to assist schools to make learning environment conducive.       In that regard, she said they should be proactive in partnering with private sector through the Adopt-A- School initiative.

He implored teachers to improvise with whatever was available in order to turn around the results which were worrying in the Kgatleng district, rather than to fold arms.

He said government was aware of shortage of teaching material but noted that the country was still reeling from the shocks brought about by COVID-19.

“I want to encourage you to do your best under the challenges you are going through,” he stated,

He assured them that government was working tirelessly to address their needs and was aware of the conditions they operated under.

Kgatleng Region representative for Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU), Mr Obakeng Segale appealed to government to bring about tangible support in the education system for teachers to turn around the results.

He said under COVID-19 circumstances, teachers were more affected because of lack of personal protective equipment. He said COVID-19 had shown how the education system needed transformation in form of interactive remote learning tools to enable teaching and electronic textbooks and connectivity.
