Botswana has registered 635 new COVID-19 cases thus bringing the total of active cases to 1 506.
The Ministry of Health’s deputy permanent secretary, Dr Tshepo Machacha, announced this during a national update on COVID-19 matters on Thursday.
He said two deaths were recorded last week, adding Botswana now stood at 2 697 deaths due to COVID-19.
Dr Machacha urged the public to comply with all health protocols to prevent further spread.
However, he said the health ministry took solace on the fact that most people had been vaccinated.
The DPS further implored the public to take booster shots.
“Booster shots help to maintain strong protection from severe coronavirus disease and therefore it should be taken,” he said.
Dr Machacha further stated that the symptoms some people experience after taking the shots were a signal that their immune system was responding and therefore building up protection against the disease. He said presently there were no patients hospitalised even at Sir Ketumile Hospital since most people had headed the call to vaccinate.
Meanwhile, Dr Machacha said the ministry was in the process to approve a second COVID-19 booster for people aged 50 and above. Ends
