Trade fairs expose students to new learning

Trade fairs and exhibitions play an imperative role in helping pupils to choose their career.

This come after a  number of schools over the weekend visited the just ended Business Northern Trade Fair in Francistown. 

 Among the schools that visited the show were Thamani and Tlhalogang Junior secondary schools from Tshesebe and Borolong villages respectively .

 According to Guidance and Counselling teacher at Tlhalogang JSS, Mr Vincent Mokgatle explained that trade fairs helped students to shape their career path in their academic journey.

“I am very much confident that trade fairs are part of career fair and they help expose students to various learning experiences, hence our desire to see the need and importance to have students having this exposure,” he said, adding that trade fairs just like career fairs helps students realise their dreams.

Mr Mokgatle explained that the school planned to participate at most up-coming fairs. Additionally he said the school had many projects related to agriculture especially horticulture.

Still at the trade fair, BOPA caught up with pupils from the mentioned schools, who could not hide their excitement over the visit.

One of the students from Tlhalogang JSS, Wabuya Mbise said she was thrilled by what she saw saying, ‘I am grateful that our school decided to bring us here so that we can learn more and augment our learning skills.’  

She said their school had similar projects especially agriculture,. Therefore she said the fair was an eye opener and both academics and practicals.

Ms Mbise, who aspires to be a doctor upon completing educational career said she saw trade fairs as providing a good platform for students to improve on what they could have missed in class.

The form three student, said she  beleives that agriculture was the backbone of the economy hence it was important to rally behind it. Ms Mbise said agriculture was the answer to lack of unemployment compared to white collar jobs which had limited job market.

The pupils visited stall and it was at the Fire and Emergency Services provided by the City of Francistown Fire Brigade, where they were lectured on fire management and services to save lives. 

Through the interactions they gained in-depth knowledge of how to prevent and manage fire outbreaks.

A leading fireman, Mr Tshopafalo Sedimo informed the students that fire training provide a remarkable knowledge to react confidently and safely in the event of a fire outbreak in the workplace. Ends
