Air Botswana to upgrade infrastructure in Maun
30 May 2022
Air Botswana is exploring ways to unlock full economic value of its land in Maun.
Air Botswana general manager, Ms Agnes Khunwana revealed this when responding to some questions from Maun Administrative Authority councilors, who had among others, wanted to know if the organisation had plans to construct new offices.
Councillors also asked if the organisation had plans to renovate its offices which were not only small, but were dilapidated hence not befitting the tourism destination status of Maun.
Ms Khunwana explained that a consultant had been engaged to carry out a feasibility study that would determine which development project would yield good returns for the airline.
The project, she said had just been commissioned and was expected to be completed by the end of quarter two during 2022/23 year.
The recommendations of the study, she said were to be implemented in the 2023/24 fiscal year.
In the short term, Ms Khunwana noted that maintenance of the existing structure would be carried out in the year 2022/23 to make it more aesthetically appealing to tourists and customers.
Bojanala ward Councillor, Mr Luke Motlaleselo welcomed the response saying Maun was a tourism destination hence the need to have infrastructure that would attract tourists.
He called on Air Botswana to speed up completion of the project.
“It is high time that relevant authorities put up structures and expand services that will promote tourism. We want to see our offices matching the international standard more so that our airport is the busiest,” he added.
Maun airport is regarded as one of the busiest airports in the southern region and is currently, under renovation to increase its capacity and to upgrade to international standards. ENDS
