Kazungula police are investigating an incident in which three men aged between 24 and 35 years were seriously injured in an accident.

Superintendent Phetogo Phillimon said the accident occurred when a vehicle the men were travelling in hit a truck from behind near Wild View Lodge on Sunday around 2:45pm.

He said a Mercedes Benz sedan, carrying six people, including the driver, is suspected to have hit a tipper truck from behind, resulting in the injuries of the three passengers.

Superintendent Phillimon said the two vehicles were travelling from the Kasane direction towards Kazungula.

He said the 35-year-old driver of the Mercedes Benz was treated for minor enjuries and discharged the same day, adding that he would be charged for driving a motor vehicle without due care.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Phillimon said his office was investigating a rape case, where a 30-year-old security officer allegedly raped his 27-year-old female colleague on Sunday around 5am at the Kazungula One Stop Border Post.

Still at the border post, a 57-year-old Congolese man was apprehended for driving a vehicle suspected to have been  stolen.

Superintendent Phillimon said the man was arrested on May 20 around 9am in transit to Zambia driving a Ford Ranger  suspected to have been stolen.

He said the suspect was arraigned before the Kasane Magistrate Court on Monday. ENDS
