Cooperation between Botswana and Palestine in areas of military education and science remains key in benefitting the two countries mutually.
This was conveyed during a courtesy call by the Palestine Ambassador to Botswana, Mr Tamer Almassri to Minister of Defence and Security, Mr Kagiso Mmusi in Gaborone on Friday.
Welcoming Mr Almassri, Mr Mmusi said the ministry received the proposal by Brigadier General Tawfiq Al-Tiwari, chairperson of the Board of Trustees Al-Istiqlal University for the University of Defence and Security Sciences in the State of Palestine to forge ties.
“It is against this background that in our reply we humbly request the esteemed office of the board of trustees of the university to draft a cooperation memorandum for our consideration,” Minister Mmusi said.
He was hopeful that the university’s board of trustees would consider the proposal requesting for the draft Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate with its various institutions of learning such as the Al-Istiqlal University.
For his part, Ambassador Almassri said he appreciated the honour to collaborate and coordination of the duos’ relation in the field of defense.
Mr Almassri said he had informed his leadership about the outcome of his previous visit to Botswana and they were ready to give their all in exploring new areas for cooperation.
“We believe in Botswana and its related common principles and we count on you for political support for our struggle against Israel,” he said. ENDS
