Kgosi Simon Nkgageng of Tati Siding  recently ordered that Tumile Morapedi (27) receive three lashes on the bare buttocks for stealing P400 and a cellphone valued P400.

Facts of the case are that the accused, who was arrested on March 23, this year, had unlawfully entered Ms Mary Themba’s house and stole money and a phone. 

It is reported that upon being questioned, Morapedi admitted to the offence and surrendered the stolen property, which was returned to the owner. 

In mitigation, the accused said that he was taking care of his children and his siblings as well as livestock at the cattle post.

Kgosi Nkgageng urged the community to always be vigilant as criminals were always on the prowl.

“There are groups that roam around at night snatching handbags and cellphones from women and disappear into the thicket,” he said, urging the community to report such incidents to the police. Ends
