BTTA awards June

The inaugural Botswana Travel and Tourism Awards(BTTA) is set to recognize companies and individuals in the travel and tourism sector for  outstanding contributions to the local economy.

Briefing the media on Tuesday, project director Mr Kagiso Morebodi said the awards scheduled for June 18  would be held under the theme: Regenerating Botswana’s Tourism through Culture, Heritage and Creativity.

Mr Morebodi said the award served as an opportunity for one to demonstrate their ability to deliver great ideas, to get celebrated and to inspire fellow entrepreneurs and professionals.

“Botswana is known around the world over for its excellence in hospitality and world-class tourism sights and marvels. We feel it is about time that we recognize the hard work and effort that goes into making Botswana tourism what it is today,” he said.

Mr Morebodi said the awards were open for everyone in the tourism sector and noted that for manual applications, registration forms would be availed at all BotswanaPost premises across the country.
As for electronic applications, interested entrepreneurs and professionals can log into www.dev.co.bw.

Mr Morebodi mentioned SADC, Business Botswana, Brand Botswana, Botswana Tourism Organization, Air Botswana, Botswana Post, Botswana Television, Yarona FM, RB2 FM, and Parrot Online some of the sponsors.

“We also have a Podcast called The In-Tourism Podcast which is airing now on YouTube sponsored by Ate@Design,” he said.

Furthermore, he stated that the winners who would be announced during the award ceremony stand to claim cash prizes and have an opportunity to partake in other regional and international travel and tourism exhibitions.

On behalf of the company that manages the awards, ReMmogo board member Mr Nkosi Mwaba thanked Batswana for their continued support to the local travel and tourism sector throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and expressed hope that companies would thrive to get back on level terms.

Mr Mwaba said the scheduled awards would come as a motivation to both aspiring entrepreneurs and existing businesses across the niche.

The award categories include Best Travel Company, Best Safari Company, Best Air Charter, Best Hotel, Best Lodge, Best Guest House, Best Camping Site, Best Youth in Tourism, Best Heritage Site, Best Photographer

Promoting Tourism, Best Cultural Activity Promoting Tourism, Best Media House Promoting Travel and Tourism, Best Eco-tourism destination, Best Female in Tourism, Best Male in Tourism and the Minister’s Award. Ends
