Nako Timepieces has broadened its range of watches from the classic, and slimline versions to the latest Nako Rattan piece with an array of specifications.

The founder of the brand Mr Gabriel Mothibedi shared in an interview that Nako Rattan was inspired by Botswana basketry, particularly of the Ngamiland District.

“It highlights the emergence of a cultural evolution based on basketry crafts which for Nako Timepieces signifies pure horological artistry,” he said.

He said the brand philosophy of merging horology and heritage continued to define Nako Timepieces’ essence of timeless heritage.

Mr Mothibedi said no detail was overlooked when designing the latest timepiece which bears handcrafted patterns characterized by naturalistic shapes, and an organic visual flow, which he defined as the pre-eminent necessity of African art.

He said their quest to seize opportunities within Botswana and in global markets had been backed by a strong desire and emphasis on sharing their story and vision with key and influential people of the world.

“Our team, as a result, has been thrilled to share round table discussions with presidents, ministers, chief executives, strategists, designers, innovation facilitators, and entrepreneurs,” he said.

He said recently he had an opportunity to engage with First National Bank Botswana chief executive officer, Mr Steven Bogatsu on a number of issues among them the need to create awareness and build an understanding of design innovation as a prospect of business growth which could transform the economy.

He reiterated that design innovation had become a key business development strategy that had been adopted by many enterprises.

At national level, he pointed out that governments had started focusing on design innovation as a key economic development strategy and had begun to strengthen their efforts to protect local design capabilities.

Mr Mothibedi also noted the importance of collaborations and private-sector-led participatory activities in tackling societal challenges facing the country, particularly poverty and unemployment, especially amongst the youth who constitute 60 per cent of the population. ENDS
