Gweta police are investigating an incident in which a thirty-four-year old man allegedly hit and killed a 32-year- old man at Mogomotsi ward in Gweta on Saturday night.
Speaking to BOPA yesterday, Gweta Police Station Commander Superintendent Godfrey Mafa explained that the incident allegedly happened around midnight on Saturday, when the deceased was sitting by the fire with his girlfriend, aged 45.
It is said that they saw someone moving in the dark and the deceased enquired whom it was.
Supt Mafa said it had been reported that the intruder did not respond, but instead immediately took a mogonono wood and hit the deceased under the right ear, leaving him lying unconscious on the ground.
He said the suspect then disappeared into thin air only to be arrested by the police at his Phoroga ward family home in the morning.
Superintendent Mafa further said the deceased’s girlfriend said she called for help, but to no avail and she was forced to walk to the police station to seek help.
Superintendent Mafa noted that the police accompanied the girlfriend to the scene, together with the paramedics from Gweta Hospital, who took him to the hospital.
Police investigations are continuing while the suspect is still in police custody.
Furthermore, Superintendent Mafa said the deceased’s next of kin had been notified.
He appealed to the public to resolve conflicts amicably or seek advice before taking drastic measures to solve their misunderstandings. ENDS
