Investigations Entangle Mother Grandmother Girlfriend

13 Apr 2022

A 69-year-old grandmother and a 47-year-old mother of Rasetimela ward in Bobonong may soon be arraigned before magistrates’ courts on charges of obstructing justice and being accessories after facts.

The third suspect in the entanglement is a 22-year-old woman, who has since been arrested on suspicvion of being an accessory after fact, which refers to someone who hides an offender, help them flee the crime scene, destroy or dispose of evidence.

Bobonong Police station commander, Superintendent Paul Seoko said, in an interview, that the grandmother had been charged with obstructing police officers and being an accessory after fact following the arrest of 28-year-old Goitseone Molosiwa, a suspect in the recent Trans Cash & Carry robbery in Tlokweng.

The grandmother allegedly haboured the suspect while aware that he was involved in a robbery incident in Tlokweng and also obstructed the police in their efforts to arrest him.

Supt Seoko said the mother to the suspect, Lesego Molosiwa, had also been charged with a single count of being accessory after facts.

Also, the suspect’s 22-year-old girlfriend has been arrested and could be charged jointly with the boyfriend pending outcomes of investigations.

Supt Seoko said the girlfriend was suspected to have aided the suspect to flee from Gaborone to Bobonong through the use of the a black Polo car.

The two had since been handed to Tlokweng police, where the crime in question was committed, Mr Seoko revealed.

Upon his arrest, Molosiwa is said to have been nursing what appeared to be bullet wounds.

Supt Seoko said police had confiscated the car, which they suspected could have been used in the commission of crime.

“We have searched them [suspects] thoroughly, but we couldn’t find anything that could be proceeds from the Tlokweng incident except for a black Polo that we are still investigating,” he said.

Meanwhile, Supt Seoko expressed concern over endless defilement cases. He said since January his station had recorded six cases of defilement and there could be more.

“You must note that these are reported cases from the hospital only and there could be more,” he noted.

Supt Seoko found that defilement had been fueled by, among other things, negligence, where parents and or guardians left for cattleposts leaving school-going children unattended.

He said the affected were mostly Form Four pupils as well as those who failed to progress past junior certificate.

He also registered his concerns over theft of electronics and electrical appliances at Malepane ward, where people had recently started settling. Supt Seoko warned that police officers were busy policing the area with the aim of uprooting the vice. Ends
