Police here have arrested two men for stock theft and impounded a vehicle - a Toyota Wish- which they used to carry meat suspected to be of stolen cattle.
Kalkfontein Police Station Commander, Superintendent Olebeng Chingabe said in an interview that acting on a tip-off they visited the kraal of a 34-year-old Chobokwane man where they found nine cattle suspected to be stolen.
The cattle had fresh branding, suggesting that they were recently marked. There was also evidence of recent slaughter near the suspect’s kraal.
Superintendent Olebeng said their investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, near Ghanzi -Charleshill junction. He said the 37 year-old was suspected to be transporting meat of stolen cattle.
Superintendent Chingabe stated that the vehicle he was reported to be driving was discovered in the bush. Another occupant of the vehicle fled the scene, he said. The police impounded the vehicle.
Mr Chingabe regretted cattle rustling was rife in his policing area. He cautioned selling meat that had not been inspected was a criminal offence as it would not have been certified safe for human consumption. Ends
