Hit run accused appears in court

The 34-year old accused in the Lephepe hit and run case Phorego Moletsanaka was on Monday granted conditional bail by Molepolole Chief Magistrate Mr Gaseitsiwe Tonoki.
The accused, Pharmacy Technician at the Ministry of Health and Wellness based in Gaborone, was ordered to provide two sureties each binding themselves with P2 000.
Moletsanaka was also ordered to report to Gaborone West police station weekly, to appear for mention as and when required to do so as well as to not interfere with other witnesses yet to be contacted.
The accused faces two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and failure to stop after an accident. The alleged offences occurred on the night of April 01, along Lephepe/Molepolole road. It is alleged that the accused person during the night in question at or near Lephepe/Molepolole B145 road in the Kweneng administrative district driving a Mazda Demeo, hit a pedestrian Tlotlang Baakile and fled the scene.
Sojwe Police Station Commander Superintendent Kitsiso Lemogang told BOPA that the police swiftly responded to the incident and their investigations led to the arrest of the accused person. The car in question was later found parked at the suspect's home in Lephepe the following morning.
Moletsanaka is expected back in court May 13. ENDS
