Sodomy suspect undergoes assessment

22 Mar 2022

A 15-year-old standard five boy suspected to have sodomised a 52-year-old deaf and dumb man of Lekgwapheng Ward in Molepolole is reportedly undergoing assessment by social workers pending referral to a juvenile’s court in Molepolole.

This was revealed by Molepolole Station Commander, Superintendent Benedict Matlho in an interview on Monday March 21.

He confirmed the incident that occurred at Lekgwapheng Ward on March 8.

Supt Matlho stated that the suspect was alleged to have been caught red handed by the victim’s niece who later reported the matter to the police.

The victim was also reportedly found bleeding from the nose and bruised on the face.

The police took him to Scottish Livingston hospital for treatment and was discharged on the same day.

However, Supt Matlho indicated that this was the second incident reported this year at his office after a similar matter involving two boys were caught in a similar act with the older boy alleged to have attempted to sodomise his younger sibling.

He said cases of this nature were a growing concern and urged parents to look after their children and look out for any awkward behaviour displayed by their children when in the company of others and act accordingly.

Meanwhile Molepolole police received a report of a 29-year-old man who allegedly committed suicide at Magokotswane Ward in Molepolole on Saturday evening.

According to Supt Matlho, it was alleged that the middle aged man, who was suspected to be Zimbabwean, was found hanging from the rafters of a pit latrine at his rented homestead in Magokotswane.

His body was discovered by his neighbour who happened to be his colleague at a local construction company in Molepolole who then reported the matter to the police.

The victim was rushed to the hospital by the police and was certified dead upon arrival.

In the meantime Supt Matlho said police were in contact with someone who was believed to be related to the victim to help them locate his other relatives in Zimbabwe while investigations on what might had led to his demise continue. Ends
