Dog licensing takes effect April
16 Mar 2022
Licensing of dogs as per Ghanzi District Council -dogs bye Laws of 2010, will take effect in April.
Addressing Ghanzi East Sub-council session, Monday, Chairperson, Mr Gabriel Nguahoka said the enforcement of these bye laws would start with licensing of the canines in April.
He said that notices to this effect had been placed in the entire sub-district and would contribute income to council.
The chairperson outlined that the charges for dog license, renewal and transfers were charged at P10 each while the duplicate licenses would cost P5.
Nonetheless, he said other portions of the bye laws such as capturing stray dog would not be done yet until council had resolved how to handle them.
Mr Nguahoka said the bye laws prohibiting livestock in the township, at Landfills, health facilities, roads, township areas, schools and water resources such as boreholes, water pipes and standpipes were being violated.
He explained that due to lack of facility to keep stray livestock the sub district had been incapacitated to fully implement the bye law.
However, he said they were devising a solution to ensure that stray animals were removed from the township. ENDS
