Botswana impresses Lagos MPs

06 Mar 2022

The Lagos National Assembly delegation has praised Botswana for its best practices in the beef industry, which contributes immensely to the country’s economy.

The delegation, which paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr Phandu Skelemani in Gaborone on Wednesday, noted that their country was eager to draw lessons regarding cattle farming in Botswana and to discuss various issues pertaining to selling to the European market.

“Botswana runs the best practice in cattle farming in Africa and it is only proper for us to benchmark so that we can become self-sufficient in beef economy to the extent of exporting,” said delegation representative, Dr Mudashine Ojayi-Obasa.

He further expressed the need for African countries to exchange ideas that would benefit their peoples.

For his part, Mr Skelemani described agriculture as an engine of Botswana’s economy, adding that it contributed significantly to the GDP, exports and employment.

“Cattle farming is part of everyday life for the ordinary Motswana, hence we need to give agriculture more attention as it sustains many people,” he said.

He thus encouraged farmers to utilise their land productively to ensure adequate food supply. ENDS
