Thuto SACCOS expands acquires assets

Thuto SACCOS has made great progress in membership, assets acquisition and diversification of products.

 This was said by Metropolitan Botswana, Corporate Business Manager, Mr Gaone Oaitse at Thuto SACCOS Annual General Meeting in Gaborone on Saturday. 

He said Thuto SACCOS had made membership the epicentre of its operations, adding that the organisation had also ventured into property acquisition.

Mr Oaitse also hailed the successful completion of the digitalization programme that would improve operational efficiency and storage and retrieval of data.

Members were encouraged to continually make efforts to save monies, regardless of how difficult it might. 

They were also advised to take advantage of existing loan avenues to invest on sustainable projects that would ultimately better livelihoods and roll back the frontiers of poverty.

In addition, he said that  the leadership of Thuto SACCOS was a major player in the national goal of employment generation, wealth creation, social equalization and realisation of the ultimate goal of a much more robust and diversified economy that caters for all. 

Mr Oaitse said Thuto SACCOS members and leaders could thrive in the midst of any adversity if they come together. 

“SACCOS thrives on the premise that doing it alone approach cannot be more beneficial,” he said.

Mr Oaitse said people should come together now that especially after COVID-19 which had put the global community into a wilderness of uncertainty. COVID-19, he said proved to be a disruptive phenomenon which suffocated normal trade between countries, isolated human beings from one another resulting in untold economic hardship. 

For that reason, he said people had to engage one another in a spirit of mutual respect and collegiality to nature and grow for a common goal.

For his part, Thuto SACCOS chairperson, Mr Charles Keikotlhae said with membership surpassing 3 000, Thuto SACCOS existed to promote the culture of saving and the economic well-being of its members by affording them an opportunity for savings.

Mr Keikotlhae announced that due to the sterling performance, the leadership took a decision to increase the emergence loan from P20 000 to P30 000, the premier savings from P100 000 to P250 000, and that the interest for both Christmas and Valentine Savings had been increased from seven per cent to 10.

Meanwhile, Ms Karabo Morule-Segobye was elected chairperson of Thuto SACCOS, deputised by Mr Billy Loeto, while additional board members included Mr Owen Katse, Mr Joseph Utwang, Ms Dinaane Kandjii, Mr Mothootsile Ralebante, Mr Elias Layani, Ms Daisy Moroka and Mr Tshwarelo Hosia. ENDS
