China General Business Association donates to elderly

China General Business Association in Botswana  has donated food hampers, blankets and surgical masks worth P80 000 to 50 elderly people of Botshabelo Ward, Selebi Phikwe.

Handing over of the donation on Friday, vice president of the association Mr Wei Wen Chen said COVID-19 had not only affected world economies but had also affected individual families including the elderly.

He said the association saw it fit to assist government take care of elderly people by donating food hampers, blankets and surgical masks to cushion them against the coming winter season, COVID-19 and improve their well-being.

China General Business Association in Botswana president Mr Zhou Jiangjun added that the donation would augment the old age pension provided by the government particularly during this time when prices for food commodities had gone up.

The closure of the BCL Mine, he said has had a serious impact on the local economy of Selebi Phikwe due to job losses, adding that it was crucial for the business community to come on board to help government resuscitate the economy of the town.

He also thanked the elderly people for their meaningful contribution to the development of the country and for raising their children to become responsible citizens. Receiving the donation Kgosi Ishmael Legwaila of Botshabelo Ward thanked the Chinese business community for making a difference in the lives of the elderly people through the donation.

He commended the Chinese Business People for the noble gesture saying government alone could not manage. ENDS
