Police investigate suspected murder of elderly Woman

17 Feb 2022

Police in Tutume are investigating an incident in which a woman, aged between 68 and 71, was found motionless at her field in Makuthu lands near Nkange village on Tuesday.

In an interview with BOPA on Wednesday, Tutume Police Station Commander, Superintendent Jerry Halahala, said they were informed that the deceased left home to work at the field on Monday.

Superintendent Halahala added that relatives got worried when they realised that she had not returned and followed her, only to find her in a bad state in the field around midnight of Tuesday.

He said the relatives notified the police, who went to the scene and took the woman to Tutume hospital, where she was certified dead.

He said they suspect foul play as they found a strange foot print at the scene, making it a suspected murder case, adding that the deceased’s bicycle was also nowhere to be found, strengthening their suspicion of foul play.

The station commander therefore, appealed to members of the public to come forward with information that could help with the case.

He said the deceased’s names were still withheld until her next of kin had been notified, while her body was at Tutume hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem.

Furthermore, Superintendent Halahala appealed to Nkange residents to desist from employing unknown persons because most perpetrators of similar past cases were illegal immigrants, employed by Batswana to work as herd boys or in the fields. Ends
