14 Feb 2022
Police in Maun are investigating an incident in which a 28-year-old-man is said to have murdered his mother in law and step son at Matlapana ward in Maun on Sunday.
Confirming the incident, Assistant Superintendent Kgakgamatso Koboyatshwene said the suspect who comes from Disana ward in Maun was helping the police with investigations.
He said the 60-year-old woman and the seven year-old boy were found by the police with axe like wounds at the deceased residence following a report by a neighbour in the early morning of February 13.
He noted that the suspect is said to have found the two sleeping when he committed the crime.
Assistant Koboyatshwene said the suspect was later apprehended at some homestead at Disana ward.
He said investigations were ongoing to determine what could have led to the suspect’s actions not ruling out possibility of misunderstanding between the suspect and his 28-year-old wife.
The suspect is expected to appear before Maun Magistrate Court this week.
Still in Maun, Assistant Supt. Koboyatshwene said that police were investigating an incident in which a 24-year-old-man of Zimbabwe origin was found hanging from rafters of his rented house on February 13.
He said the 77-year-old landlord reported the matter to the police after she saw the man hanging from the rafters.
He said this was after she peeped through the window after realising that the man had been missing for some time.
Assistant Supt Koboyatshwene said that the police has managed to locate one of the deceased’s relatives. ENDs
