Police find human-like bones

Police in Jwaneng last week found what they suspect to be human bones at Dinonyane cattle post near Jwaneng.
Speaking in an interview, Jwaneng police station commander, Superintendent Thuso Basuti said that the matter was brought to their attention by a passerby.
“The man who reported indicated that he was on a walk with his dogs when they suddenly gave chase to a wild animal, and he said he followed them to see what they were chasing,” said Supt Basuti.
He said the man informed the police that while he was still following his dogs, he found a cellphone in the bush, and just after he picked it he discovered what he thought was a human skull and a few bones together with some pieces of clothing that were already destroyed by termites.
“We then went to the scene and found it as he reported, and we collected the bones which we will take to the pathologist to ascertain whether they were of a human being or not,” said Jwaneng police boss.
He said that last year in December 22, a 57 year old man was reported to have gone missing while on his way from Jwaneng to Dinonyane cattleposts and was never found. “We suspect that the bones might be his, and if the pathologist confirms that the bones are human, we will then contact the family of the said man to conduct a DNA test,” he said.
Supt Basuti said issues of people who went missing were a concern in the area, citing another man and a woman who were reported sometime back and still to be found. He therefore appealed that people should always inform others of their whereabouts so that they could be reported in time if they go missing.
On other issues, he raised concern at other escalating criminal activities such as defilements, rapes and threats to kill. BOPA
