A 25-year old man, Ntebang Radipitse of Moisakamo ward in Kanye has been remanded in custody pending further investigations for the murder of his mother, Mosiamemang Radipitse.
The accused appeared before Kanye magistrate Mr Daniel Nkau on Thursday for the amendment of his initial charge of attempted murder to murder, and subsequent substitution of the charge sheet following the recent death of the victim.
It is reported that Ntebang poured paraffin on his mother and set her alight on December 22 at Phitshane cattle-post near Selokolela village during a family misunderstanding. She sustained injuries on the chest and died after being hospitalized for some days.
On count two, he is accused of unlawfully assaulting Mosimanegape Kebonamang by biting him on the right biceps resulting in a wound.
The prosecutor, Sub-Inspector Mabutho Mabutho told court that the matter was still under investigation and they were awaiting forensic report for exhibits. He pleaded with court to remand the accused for his safety since tempers were still high.
“The victim was the accused person’s biological mother and granting him bail is not safe because relatives are still angry,” he said.
Mr Nkau denied the accused person bail, who had indicated that he needed to attend to the livestock that was left in his care and his personal property. He was remanded until February 3, when the investigating officer was expected to be present.
On a different matter before Mr Nkau, 22-year old Karabo Motlhakodi pleaded guilty to two counts of drunken driving and driving a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence.
He is accused of driving a motor vehicle at Taukobong ward in Kanye when the alcohol content in his body was 0.41mg/1000ml against the 0.22mg/1000ml limit on December 2.
He was granted bail on condition that he attends all court sessions as required, while the matter was scheduled for mention on May 31.
Mr Nkau also granted bail to 29-year old Keatametse Wamakoko of Tloung ward in Kanye, who is facing a single count of drunken driving.
The particulars of the offence indicate that on December 21 he drove a motor vehicle near Kanye Education Centre when the alcohol content in his body was 0.5mg/1000ml.
The self-employed mechanic pleaded guilty and the matter continues on May 31. ENDS
