Member of Parliament avails his farm to youth

In an endeavor to address shortage of land among the youth in his constituency, Serowe South MP, Mr Leepetswe Lesedi has availed part of his agricultural farm to help young people start farming projects.

The farm is located 7 km from Mogorosi.

In a recent interview with BOPA, Mr Lesedi confirmed the development and encouraged young people in his constituency, especially those who reside near Mogorosi village, to take advantage of the initiative to create employment and contribute to food security.

He said those who would rise to the challenge and seize the opportunity would have an advantage of fenced land as well as water and electricity.

He said the farm is 42 hectares with four divisions.

The other sides could be used for ploughing while other portions might be utilized by constructing poultry houses or rearing of small stork, he quipped.

Mr Lesedi however said there would be an agreement on the usage of the farm and those with interests would either work in small groups or as individuals.

He said his intention was to assist the youth as they were faced with unemployment.

The Serowe South legislator said he availed part of his land to encourage the youth to engage in farming and also put the idle land to use.

Mr Lesedi further said beneficiaries would not pay anything as the initiative was meant for the youth to sustain themselves.

He was hopeful that the initiative would assist those who had passion to start agricultural projects but were hindered by lack of land.

The MP further postulated that beneficiaries would be assisted in looking for financial institutions which would be willing to partner with them to develop the land.

He said they were looking for serious people who would work on their projects to make sure they succeed.

At present, he said those  interested were still registering with his office.

Mr Lesedi however said there would be a challenge regarding transportation to the farm and those who did not mind walking or transporting themselves would be suitable for the project. ENDS
