Man arraigned for murder

 A 28 year-old man of Boseja ward in Maun appeared before Maun Chief Magistrate Thebeetsile Molalu on Tuesday, for a single count of murder.

The accused person, Mose Kamonono is alleged to have murdered Pono Manguja on January 1 at Samedupe settlement near Maun in the North West District.

In his submission, the investigating officer, Inspector Dikai Nkape of Maun Police said the state opposed bail since the investigations were at an initial stage and that some witness statements were yet to be recorded.

Inspector Nkape said that some exhibits including a gun, were yet to be forwarded for forensics.

He also said that the accused person’s safety was at a stake and therefore, pleaded that he be remanded in custody until the prosecution completed investigations.

Particulars of the offence are that on December 31, 2021 the accused person and the deceased had a misunderstanding and the accused allegedly phoned the deceased’s aunt the following day and informed her that the deceased had left their home and left behind their one year-old son in the accused person’s custody.

The accused person later reported to the police that the deceased was missing, prompting a search for the deceased.

After further interrogation by the police, the accused person  told the police that he had had a misunderstanding with the deceased which resulted with him allegedly shooting the deceased with a rifle.

The accused person further told the police that he buried the deceased in his ploughing field at Samedupe and led the police to the scene whereupon, the deceased was exhumed from “the grave.”

Chief Magistrate Molalu remanded the accused person in custody until January 24 for status report pending bail ruling.  ENDS
