 A Zimbabwean truck driver is in police custody in relation to a fatal accident that claimed two lives near Maope, along A1 Road on Christmas eve.

Assistant Superintendent Mbobo Serokolo of Serule Police said the driver, who is not a Botswana resident, is yet to appear before Selebi Phikwe Magistrate Court, for the court to decide whether to grant him bail or not.

He said four vehicles, horse and trailer, Mazda 3, a seven tonne truck and a Dyna Toyo Ace were involved in the crash.

He said three of the vehicles were north bound while the truck was heading south, adding that two people; a Toyo Ace driver, and a passenger aged between 29 and 31 died on the spot.

He said seven people in other vehicles did not sustain any injuries while police investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the accident.

Assistant Superintendent Serokolo further warned motorists to drive cautiously at the prescribed speed to avoid accidents. ENDS
