22 Dec 2021
Three of the five accused persons in the G4S P8.5 million cash heist - Mothusi Matomela, Thapelo Lekobe and Khumo Sakarea were yesterday granted conditional bail by the Village Magistrate Court.
Outlining the bail conditions, principal magistrate, Ms Lindiwe Makgoro said each accused person should pay P10 000 upfront and provide two sureties binding themselves with the same amount.
Another condition prohibits them from leaving their residences between 7pm and 5am.
The court also directed that they must not leave their respective places of residence without the investigating officer’s knowledge and to attend court as and when required to do so.
Ms Makgoro ordered Matomela and Sakarea to report to Gaborone West Police Station and Lekobe to report to Selebi Phikwe Police Station every Friday during working hours.
The trio was also ordered to surrender their travelling documents and to provide the investigating officer with their mobile numbers.
Earlier, the investigating officer, Detective Sub-Inspector Kagiso Molebatsi had indicated that investigations were almost complete and cautioned the accused persons against interfering with them while on bail.
The three are joining fellow accused persons Thabano Ramaja and Pelontle Moagabo who are already out on bail.
The five are facing charges of armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition.
They are alleged to have followed and ambushed a G4S Security cash-in-transit vehicle and robbed it of over P8.5 million at gunpoint at Block 6 Red Dot complex in Gaborone.
