Court postpones G4S red-dot robbery case bail hearing
16 Dec 2021
Village Magistrate Court has once again postponed bail application in the G4S P8.5 million cash heist case.
The postponement was due to the absence of the Chief Magistrate, Dr Goodwill Makofi and the investigating officer. Bail application will now be heard on December 22.
Three of the five accused persons, Mothusi Matomela, Thapelo Lekobe and Khumo Sakarea had hoped to apply for bail yesterday Wednesdady after their hearing was postponed from the scheduled date of November 30 as the court could not convene.
Appearing before Principal Magistrate, Ms Lindiwe Makgoro, stand-in prosecutor, Sergeant Dumilani Setlhako of Botswana Police informed the court that the scheduled bail application hearing would not continue as planned due to non-availability of Dr Makofi and the investigating officer who was not well.
Therefore, Sgt. Setlhako pleaded with the court to set another date when all concerned parties in the matter would be available. Other accused persons in the case, Thabano Ramaja and Pelontle Moagabo are currently on bail.
The five accused persons are facing charges of armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and unlawful possession on ammunition.
They are alleged to have, in August this year, followed and ambushed a G4S cash in transit vehicle and robbed the security company, at gun point, of cash amounting to over P8.5 million at Block 6 Red Dot Complex in Gaborone. ENDS
