G4S case bail application December 16
07 Dec 2021
Three of the five accused persons in G4S P8.5m cash heist, Mothusi Matomela, Thapelo Lekobe and Khumo Sakarea will have to wait before applying their bail.
The three accused persons appeared before Chief Magistrate Dr Goodwill Makofi on Monday with a hope of applying for bail, which was however quashed as the court set December 16 as the new date for their bail application.
The trio were initially scheduled to make their bail application on November 30 before Dr Makofi, but the court did not seat on the date, hence the matter was postponed to December 6 for mention when the substantive magistrate would be seating.
However, upon hearing the matter, Dr Makofi advised that any court was competent to hear the trio’s bail application in his absence.
Magistrate Dr Makofi would have preferred to hear the bail application sooner, but the prosecution and the accused persons indicated that they would be having other matters elsewhere.
In fact, Sakarea would be appearing before Mahalapye magistrate court on December 9 for another bail hearing, while Matomela would be appearing at Broadhust magistrate court on December 13, in relation to another robbery case. The court settled for December 16.
Other accused persons in the case, Thabano Ookeditse Ramaja and Pelontle Moagabo are currently out on bail.
The five accused persons are facing charges armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition.
The five accused persons are alleged to have followed and ambushed G4S Security cash in transit vehicle and robbed the security company at gun point cash amounting to over P8.5 million at Block 6 Red Dot complex, in Gaborone. ends
