P8.5m robbers remand extended

Three of the five accused persons in the P8.5 million G4S cash robbery case will appear before Village chief magistrate, Dr Goodwill Makofi on Monday after they were remanded further in custody Tuesday.
The trio, Mothusi Alfred Motomela, Thapelo Lekobe and Khumo Sakarea who had been in custody since their arrest had during their previous court appearance indicated the desire to apply for bail.
However, due to the unavailability of their case substantive magistrate, Dr Makofi, the accused persons have to spend some days in prison.
Other suspects on the matter, Thabano Ookeditse Ramaja and Pelontle Moagabo have been granted bail by the same court.
During their appearance on Tuesday, Sakara was a notable absentee as he was said to be appearing elsewhere for another robbery-related offence.
The accused persons are alleged to have followed and ambushed G4S Security cash in transit vehicle and robbed the security company of over P8.5 million at Block 6 Red Dot complex.
The stolen cash was destined for loading at ATMs.
In one of the previous court mentions, investigating officer, Detective Sub Inspector Kagiso Molebatsi told Village Magistrate Court that around P900 000 had been recovered.
Apart from their case before Village Magistrate Court, Motomela and Lekobe are also facing a similar offence before Broadhurst magistrate.
The two, together with two South African nationals are accused of having staged a cash robbery at Turn Right Mall and stole about P2.3 million from G4S security.
In their two cases, the accused face charges of armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition.
The case before Village Magistrate Court is scheduled for December 6 while the one before Broadhurst Magistrate Court is scheduled for mention on December 13. Ends
