Chairperson calls for robust decision making

16 Nov 2021

As government embarks on the transformation agenda, emphasis has been made on the need for robust decision making to guide developments.

Speaking during the virtual sub-council session in Kanye on Monday, Kanye Administrative Authority chairperson Mr Simon Ramaphoi said time was now to re-configure the country’s economic fortunes and to ensure that citizens remained central beneficiaries of government programmes and projects.

Mr Ramaphoi said communities were pinning their hopes on the district leadership to deliver on the promises made on the day they took office.

He said the roll-out of the Reset Agenda and change management framework was underway in the district, following which they would share with communities the anticipated changes.

He thus pleaded with the district leadership and heads of departments to look into strategic plans, annual performance plan activities and budgets to ascertain if they were aligned to what has been set out in the reset agenda, mid-term review of National Development Plan 11, Economic revitalisation and transformation Plan, President’s Transformational Agenda and the National Vision 2036.

Furthermore, he called on the district leadership to introspect on what they intend to reset and reclaim.  “Do we have strategies in place to reclaim excellences in the areas of service delivery, project delivery, effectiveness and efficiency as well as stakeholder collaboration?” he asked.

Mr Ramaphoi said given that some services were adversely affected during the pandemic, it was imperative to strategise post State of Emergency.

He spoke of the need to identify quick wins that would enable the district to realise high impact value, adding there must be a meaningful role they play in economic diversification, export development and promotion, poverty reduction, unemployment and Small, Medium and Micro-Enterprise (SMME) development.

He encouraged the district leadership to harness local economic activities to foster value chain in production cycles as well as to develop entrepreneurship capacity.

He said since change was leadership driven, it was paramount for the leaders to shift their mind-set and start viewing the district in a more innovative and resourceful manner. ENDS
