Robbery suspects fatally shot

13 Nov 2021

Two Batswana men have been fatally shot by members of Botswana Police Service during a robbery of a liquor outlet in Taung near Ramotswa on Friday evening.

A press release from Botswana Police indicates that four gunmen attacked employees of the liquor outlet and made away with undisclosed amount of cash and some goods.
The release further said the quartet later exchanged fire with the police, who had just arrived at the scene to intervene.

It says two other suspects were seriously injured and were hospitalised under police escort, adding that three handguns, cash and goods were found in their possession. A motor vehicle also suspected to have been used in the commission of the offence has since been impounded pending further investigations.

According to the release, Botswana Police Service would, therefore, like to urge the public, especially the business community, to utilise modern banking services and avoid keeping large sums of money at home.

"This [keeping large sums of money at home] had over the years attracted the attention of criminals, who usually storm their places of residence and attack them," states the release.

"On another note, the Police encourage the public to have confidence on the emergency number 999 and make use of it to report any form of crime. The emergency number has been reconfigured to allow the police to effectively and efficiently respond to crime reports,” says the release. END
