Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) is to sign a Meomorandum of Understanding with the Movement of the Enterprises of France, MEDEF.
Speaking in an interview after meeting some 16 MEDEF international representatives yesterday, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi said the aim of the MOU was to create dialogue between the two organisations.
He expressed the hope that French investors would develop interest in setting up businesses in Botswana.
Some companies were already operating in Botswana and wished to expand while others would be new investors, the President said.
Among the companies which have shown interest in expanding to Botswana are those in security, ICT and solar energy.
President Masisi urged potential start-ups not to look at Botswana’s population but its strategic position which rendered it capable of serving all SADC countries and the rest of the world.
Earlier in his speech, President Masisi said Botswana stood out in many areas.
The country boasted a mature democracy, relatively open economy with attractive tax regulations and incentives for investment, stable political and macro economic environment as well as an excellent good governance track record, he said.
For his part, MEDEF, chairperson Mr Nomar Nguer expressed delight at hosting President Masisi after having a similar meeting with former president Dr Festus Mogae in 2008.
He said MEDEF prided itsself in partnering with foreign companies to expand their business base.
Mr Nguer said the organisation represented France business community interests both within the country and at international level.
Following the meeting, he said the organisation would continue sharing valuable information about doing business in Botswana to motivate interested entrepreneurs. ENDS
