Ralekwalo anticipates success in Tswana chicken farming

A farming investment that started off by buying a few Tswana breed chickens from a relative now looks set for success.
Mr Boipuso Ralekwalo, owner of a two and a half hectare farm along Mmashoro main road is sure of a market in Mmashoro, Dimajwe and Serowe.
His wish, he told BOPA, was to eventually supply the entire country. And he is not fazed by the fact that most Batswana are trying their luck in the business. Rather, he is confident that his efforts will bear fruit.
Mr Ralekwalo said he had good customers in street vendors and the Indian community to whom he sold the chickens for P100 a unit.
He said his goal was to venture into integrated farming by incorporating goat rearing and horticulture. Mr Ralekwalo keeps broilers and now wants to introduce layers.
With the amount of land he possesses and its ideal location, he has applied for financial assistance from CEDA to diversify the project.
Building chalets to lease out to those passing through Mmashoro is another idea that Mr Ralekwalo hopes to explore. However water shortage is a challenge.
For now he bowses for his birds and is working on sinking a borehole to cater for the project
He encouraged fellow Batswana to give farming a chance given its potential to elevate the country’s economy, especially now during the COVID-19 pandemic that has negatively affected the economy. ends
