Arson suspect to appear in court

A 32-year-old man of Mmathethe has appeared in court on charges of malicious damage to property.
Nicholas Bojosi, who will appear for mention September 19, is alleged to have burnt to ashes two cars , a Mini cooper and a Runx that were involved in an accident along the Kanye-Mmathethe road recently.
In an interview with BOPA, Superintendent Batshwari Gaobatlelwe said the accussed had been granted conditional bail and had pleaded guilty.
Supt Gaobatlelwe said the man, who was the owner of the mini cooper, told the police that he wanted to burn his car but unfortunately since the two cars were near each other, they both caught fire.
He said the man, said he no longer wanted his car and wanted to burn it.
Supt Gaobatlelwe said the two vehicles had been in police custody and waiting inspection, following a road accident.
On other matters, Supt Gaobatlelwe divulged that they had been experiencing burglary and house breaking in the entire district, especially at teachers’ quarters.
He said they had observed that following closure of schools a month ago, thieves had realised that the teachers’ quarters were left unattended and they took advantage stealing valuables such as television sets and other appliances.
Mr Gaobatlelwe said it was advisable for teachers to form neighbourhood watch committees or consider hiring security companies to look after their properties during vacation.
He further said they had made few arrests of people selling or consuming alcohol. ENDS
