 Police in Mabutsane are investigating an incident in which a 55-year old woman of Botapo ward in Kokong allegedly ingested livestock dip on Sunday might.

In an interview, Assistant Station Commander for Mabutsane Police, Assistant Superintendent, Modironyana Lekone indicated that the matter was handed to them by the Kokong clinic personnel after it was reported to them.

“We were told that the grand-daughter of the woman rushed to the clinic to report that her granny has drank livestock dip, the nurses then rushed to attend to her and later rushed her to Mabutsane clinic where she was subsequently transferred to Jwaneng mine hospital where she is currently recuperating,” he said.

Assistant superintendent Lekone said that the woman was now in stable condition, although he indicated that her condition was bad on Monday. He said that they were yet to interrogate to find her reason  for drinking the life-threatening liquid.

“The doctors advised us to give her some time to improve because she was still too fatigued to talk, but once we interview her we are hopeful to get the full reasons behind her actions. At the moment we do not want to make assumptions about attempts to end her life,” he said.

Assistant superintendent Lekone also said that they were not sure how much of the liquid the woman ingested as she drank from a 200ml bottle which had already been used.

On other issues, Assistant Superintendent Lekone cautioned people that veldt fire season was about to start and therefore they should be careful with how they handle fires, especially at cattle posts and ploughing fields.

“Veldt fires have not really been much of a concern in the area, but it does not mean that we should be complacent. Our police men and women have been going around cattle posts educating people on how to handle fires because that is where most of them start,” he said.

He said so far they had experienced a few fire outbreaks that were easily put out. ends
