Bobonong police arrest robbery suspects

10 Aug 2021

Police in Bobonong have apprehended suspects, who have been terrorising residents.

Station commander, Superintendent Paul Seoko, said a 17-year-old pupil at Bobonong Junior Secondary School and two other 20-year-olds were arrested on Saturday following a string of robberies in the village last week.

Mr Seoko said the 17-year-old juvenile was investigated with the help of social workers, adding that he was also reportedly facing four rape charges he allegedly committed before he was busted with his accomplices over the weekend.

Mr Seoko said the three alleged suspects faced charges of break-in in two tuckshops, a shop, home invasion and three street robberies. He said the suspects got away with cellphones and other valuable gadgets whose owners successfully identified. Supt Seoko, however, said goods that were stolen from the tuckshops had also been recovered.

He said the knife-wielding trio were on conditional bail.

“We hope the recent attacks on people will subside following the arrests of these suspects,” said Supt Seoko.

In other matters, Supt Seoko said that they were investigating a break-in at seven offices at Bobonong Rural Administrative Centre where a laptop was stolen.

“We don’t have a lead, but I can assure you we are going to arrest them,”  he said.

He appealed to the public to help with information that could lead to the police cracking the case.

Supt Seoko also warned the public to be on the lookout for a prison escapee Lesedi Marope who was serving 17 years in Selebi Phikwe prison.

He escaped in the early hours of Monday.

The police warned that the escapee was a dangerous and habitual criminal. ends
