Sexual offences worry Gumare police
09 Aug 2021
Police in Gumare have expressed concern about the rising number of defilement incidents in their jurisdiction.
Speaking in an interview recently, acting station commander, Assistant Superintendent Jerry Sabata said since April this year, they had recorded seven defilement cases.
Assistant Superintendent Sabata stated that they were investigating two defilement cases that happened last week.
He said in one of the cases, a 42-year-old man was charged for defiling a 13-year-old at Boyeyi ward, while a 27-year-old man of Bothatogo ward was charged for sleeping with a 15-year-old girl, both in Gumare.
The duo, he said, was yet to appear before Gumare Magistrate Court.
Meanwhile, Assistant Superintendent Sabata lamented that most defilement cases went unreported, which he said had the potential to destroy young girls’ future.
He also warned adults from engaging in sexual relationships with minors and encouraged parents to always be aware of their children’s movements.
He urged parents and the community at large, to desist from concealing defilement incidents, but report even suspicious cases. ends
