Good Hope police investigate arson

04 Aug 2021

Goodhope police are investigating a suspected arson involving two vehicles that had been parked at the police station.

Superintendent Batshwari Gaobatlelwe said in an interview that a middle-aged man of Mmathethe village was a suspect in the matter.

He said on August 2 at around midnight a police officer stationed at Mmathethe police post saw flames and smoke coming from one of the cars, which were parked in the yard.

It was also reported that after sometime the other car, which was parked nearby also caught fire and the two vehicles, a Mini cooper and a Runx burnt down to ashes.

Superintendent Gaobatlelwe said the two cars were earlier in the day involved in an accident along Mmathethe-Kanye road.

He said preliminary investigations showed that the mini cooper driver lost control and hit a Runx, which was stationary.

He went on to say that the middle-aged man who was driving a Mini cooper was their first suspect because he had apparently hinted after the accident that he wanted to burn his car.

Meanwhile Superintendent Gaobatlelwe said they were investigating another motor vehicle accident along Kgoro-Gathwane road.

He said the driver also lost control and the car ended up overturning, a driver and a passenger sustained minor injuries while the other passenger suffered a broken arm and was immediately transferred to Princess Marina hospital.

Superintendent Gaobatlelwe warned drivers to avoid speeding because the road is graveled and has lots of curves.

On other news Mr Gaobatlelwe revealed that they recently registered a case of stock theft where at least 13 goats were reported stolen at Mmapulane lands in Mmathethe area.

Mr Gaobatlelwe cautioned farmers to avoid leaving their livestock unattended. Ends
