Woman in custody for concealment of birth

 Police are holding a 29-year old woman of Sekao ward in Nata for concealment of birth. 

In an interview, Nata police station commander, Superintendent Vincent Pitsietsile, said the woman was arrested over the weekend after family members realised that a newborn was tied in a plastic bag and thrown into the family home pitlatrine. 

He said they immediately notified the police who indeed found the baby and arrested the suspect. 

Still at Sekao ward, a 21-year old woman was arrested over death of a 11-day-old baby whom she took to the clinic for checkup, was found to be dead by the nursing staff at the facility. 

The station commander explained that according to their initial findings, the woman gave birth properly at Nyangabgwe hospital in Francistown and was under the care of nurses until she was discharged without any complications. 

Superintendent Pitsietsile said on interrogation, the woman claimed that the baby was sick at night vomiting blood stains and she could not take her to the clinic, but managed the next day. 

He said investigation were ongoing and the resultant postmortem report would determine the cause of death. 

In another incident, the station commander said they were holding in custody a 47-year-old man of Manakanagoree ward in Nata for unlawful wounding offence after he stabbed anotherr man with a sharp object. Ends
